Client Paperwork:

Laura Valley

MSW, LCSW

"What do we live for, if not to make life less difficult for each other?" - George Eliot

Hello! My name is Laura, and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Missouri and Illinois. Thank you for taking the time to review my profile.

Sometimes we all need a little help. It's not easy to ask for help, I know. When you're ready, I'm here to help you navigate through the challenges in your life and build upon your strengths. Currently I'm providing telehealth by video or phone sessions; I am a Certified Tele-Mental Health provider (CTMH). The approach I use varies with each client and their needs, but I typically incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and solution-focused counseling in sessions. I have been trained in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and I’m trauma informed. My approach is holistic, as I believe integrating the physical, social, spiritual, mental, and emotional aspects of our lives is important to overall wellness.

I earned a Master of Social Work (MSW) at St. Louis University in 1996. I have 22 years of clinical social work experience, including school social work, intensive outpatient therapy, and private practice. I've worked with people of all ages and backgrounds. Some of the difficulties clients have brought to counseling include anxiety, depression, grief/loss, ADHD, trauma, behavior problems/parenting, domestic violence, codependency, chronic physical illness, chronic mental illness, difficulty in interpersonal relationships, anger management, stress management, and a lack of coping skills.

Walter’s Walk is special to me for many reasons. I fully support Walter’s Walk’s mission and the provision of mental health services regardless of the ability to pay. I offer a sliding fee scale and accept Anthem and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois. Currently I’m available evenings and weekends and I will work with you to accommodate your schedule.

Our first session will give me an opportunity to learn about you and your background, and to develop a goal(s) with you for treatment. It is my hope, working together, you will reach your goal(s) and live your best life!
